Q.  In the 2004 edition of NFPA 70E, Table 130.7(C)(11), taken with Note 7 fromTable 130.7(C)(10), seem to imply that a rating of 4 is adequate for category 2 as long as the undergarments are of a non-melting material such as cotton. Is my interpretation correct?
A.  This confusion was cleared up in the 2009 edition of 70E. Tables 130.7(C)(10) and 130.7(C)(11) have been revised to require FR clothing of the level required for the H/R category.  For example, if you have an incident energy level of 8 cal/cm2, the requirement from the table is “FR clothing , minimum arc rating of 8 cal/cm2.”
