Q. In the 2004 edition of NFPA 70E, Table 130.7(C)(11), taken with Note 7 fromTable 130.7(C)(10), seem to imply that a rating of 4 is adequate for category 2 as long as the undergarments are of a non-melting material such as cotton. Is my interpretation correct? |
A. This confusion was cleared up in the 2009 edition of 70E. Tables 130.7(C)(10) and 130.7(C)(11) have been revised to require FR clothing of the level required for the H/R category. For example, if you have an incident energy level of 8 cal/cm2, the requirement from the table is “FR clothing , minimum arc rating of 8 cal/cm2.” |
